The Israeli Defense Forces on Sunday accused Hamas of breaking a recent ceasefire and renewed attacks in Gaza against what it called "terror targets."

Israel said it has resumed a truce with Hamas in Gaza after heavy fighting over the weekend, with the sides accusing each other of breaching a deal brokered by US President Donald Trump.

The fragile truce in Gaza faced its first major test on Sunday after Israel alleged Hamas had violated the ceasefire and hit back with air and artillery strikes.

The body of a hostage which was handed over by Hamas on Monday night has been identified as that of Major Tal Haimi, 41, the Israeli military has said.
