Haast's Eagle or Pouākai, was the largest eagle in the world and lived in Te Waipounamu (South Island). It had a unique ability to take down prey 10-20 times its body mass, including fully grown moa. Said to be a descendant of Rehua (Antares), Pouākai is depicted in the stars above the great waka of the sky that includes Matariki.
